Colombia’s president told the United States vice president the importance of reviewing the alert the US has placed on Colombia for their tourists.
President Juan Manuel Santos and US Vice President Joe Biden discussed via telephone the elimination of visa requirements for Colombia’s and also if the United States could take down the travel warning they have placed on Colombia.
President Juan Manuel Santos said that the travel warning “no longer applies” to Colombia in his phone call with Vice President Biden, according to a press release.
The state department states in Colombia’s travel warning that, “While the U.S. Embassy possesses no information concerning specific and credible threats against U.S. citizens in Colombia, we strongly encourage you to exercise caution and remain vigilant as terrorist and criminal activities remain a threat throughout the country.”
The US government’s warning published in April of this year, cited explosions that happen on “a regular basis,” drug and gang violence, and kidnapping as the reasons why tourists should exercise caution when visiting.
