Routes of Colombian Coffee Landscape Nominated for WTO Award

TODAY COLOMBIA (Prensa Latina) A trip to a world heritage site, as part of the project Routes of the Coffee Cultural Landscape in Colombia, is vying for an award sponsored by the World Tourism Organization, scheduled to be granted during the international fair FITUR 2015.

The tourism award ceremony, to be held in Madrid, Spain, scheduled for January 28, will acknowledge new initiatives in the sector in the categories of: businesses, non governmental organizations and public policies.

The emblematic coffee sceneries in Colombia, which lure visitors through the scent of plantations and the exclusive visits to the fields, rank first among rural tourist destination in Latin America, according to El Nuevo Siglo web portal.

The adaptation of the coffee plantations and traditional houses to accomodate the visitors also stand out in the region where the world’s best Arabica coffee is grown.

Tourists can hear the farmers sing as they pick coffee, and there are also ecological long walks through the green vegetation of a zone near the Andes.

The Coffeee Cultural Landscape, covering areas in 47 municipoalities, was declared World Heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO.)
