Modernization Will Mean A World Class Airport For Cali

Work on the modernization of the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón will begin in the first half of 2014, that includes the remodeling of the existing terminal building and the construction of a second.

Airport authorities will be signing today a concession agreement with the operator, Aerocali. Located in Palmira, the airport serves the Valle del Cauca and its major city of Cali, Colombia’s third largest city and gateway to the Pacific coast.

The airport’s director, Santaigo Castro, the agreement is a significant achievement, given that it passes from a memorenadum of understanding signe a year ago, to a formal contract.

The renovation work of the existing building includes new water and electrical supply systems and modern waiting areas for travellers.

Phase two will be the construction of a new terminal building adjacent to the existing building, with capacity with fourteen gates. The new building will be connected to the existing bridge, will be equipped with modern technology and broader platform to accommodate larger aircraft, including the Airbus 330, a fire station and a green pedestrian area.

The parking area will also be remodelled and expanded, as will the ramps to and from the terminal.

The modernization cost is $200 billion Colombian pesos and be ready in 2015.
