For the first quarter of 2014, Grupo Poma is expected to inaugurate it’s Marriott hotel in Cali, which would have 180 rooms, bringing the company’s total number of rooms in Colombia to 800 under the brand names Marriott and JW Marriott.
The hotel will be located at the corner of Avenida 8 Norte and Calle 9 in the hear of Granada, minutes from Chipichape mall, in the north side of the city, an area filled with some of Cali’s most desirable restaurants, bars and shops.
In addition to the 180 rooms and suites, the hotel will feature a casual dining restaurant, a sushi bar and a great room. The hotel will also have three different meeting spaces available including the 400 square metre (4.900 square-foot) ballroom. Recreational facilities include a swimming pool and a fitness center. Other amenities will include a concierge lounge, business centre, gift shop and parking garage.
In 1962 Luis Poma founded Grupo Roble in El Salvador in order to develop real estate in his country and Central America. His first project was the construction of the Miramonte housing development, followed by Metrocenter Mall San Salvador, near the Camino Real hotel, which is now Intercontinental San Salvador, and a corporate office building in the area.
Since, Grupo Roble has expanded in Central America with extensive holdings of shopping centres, office buildings and hotels.
In Colombia, the company is goes under the name Grupo Poma, with holdings in Colombia and Cartagena. The company is considering investments in Peru, Brazil and Chile in South America and in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean.
