Hillary Clinton Parties in Colombia, Continues Streak of Internet Fame

Salsa, cervezas and international diplomacy? Just as the viral Tumblr inspired by the U.S. Secretary of State, Texts from Hillary, closed up shop, Hillary Clinton made her way back into the spotlight with some Latin dance moves. While in Cartagena, Colombia, for the sixth Summit of the Americas over the weekend, Clinton shed her all-work, no-play demeanor and pleasantly surprised the Internet by (gasp) enjoying herself at Café Havana. Alongside a dozen of her aides and a couple of bodyguards, the 64-year-old danced the rumba, played the maracas and shook hands with each of the 11 band members before leaving around 1 a.m., ABC and Reuters reported.

But it wasn’t all fun and games. Back at work, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos insisted that continued isolation of Cuba is unacceptable, but the U.S. and Canada refused to budge, the New York Post reports. (Their choice of headline? “Swillary.”) Meanwhile, the Secret Service’s prostitution scandal shocked the nations gathering to discuss energy, drug trafficking and trade.

While most agree that the Secret Service members’ alleged actions are an embarrassment to the U.S., some say Clinton’s seemingly modest consumption crossed the line as well. “This was hardly a display of good judgment at a time when nearly 13 million Americans are unemployed, and U.S. soldiers are laying their lives on the line every day in Afghanistan,” writes Nile Gardiner of the Telegraph. “This was less an example of ‘smart power’ than a boozy nightclub audition for the sixth season of Jersey Shore.”

Despite possible backlash from her night out, social-media users seem to dig this cerveza-sipping Secretary of State.
