An alleged FARC grenade attack in south-west Colombia has left 12 Colombian marines injured, two of them seriously.

A grenade explosion rocked a truck carrying Colombian marines near the town of Tumaco in Colombia’s southwestern Nariño state, reported the Semana newspaper on Wednesday.

Eight of the marines were hospitalized, two in a “grave” condition. Military authorities believe the Daniel Aldana column of the FARC to be responsible for the attack.

This latest incident comes only a week after a mortar attack on a naval base protecting oil handling facilities at the port of Tumaco, less than 30 miles from the border with Ecuador.

The town has also been left without water or power for weeks after other alleged FARC attacks.  They took to the streets in October to protest their “abandonment” by the central government.
