On Thursday, General Dynamics announced that its Canadian subsidiary, General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, has won a $65.3 million contract from the Colombian Ministry of National Defense to supply the Colombian Army with 24 Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs).
Canada’s government acted as the conduit for this sale.
The LAVs to be delivered under the contract are Type III LAVs, equipped with a double-V hull, such as has become popular in mine-resistant, ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles, and additional armor.
Each LAV III sold will be equipped with a Rafael Remote Controlled Weapon Station built by Israel’s Rafael Industries. These will be the first armored vehicles of this type ever purchased by Colombia, according to GD.
