FARC grateful for Venezuela’s support in Colombia’s peace dialog

farcos.jpg.520.360.thumbThe Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) Wednesday expressed its gratitude to Venezuelan acting President Nicolás Maduro for his support in the peace talks held in Havana, which seek to put an end to the Colombian armed conflict that has last more than fifty years.

“Thank you, President Maduro. We will work hard here in Havana to make progress in the roundtable (discussions), seeking to reach an agreement with the Colombian Government,” based on peace, said FARC’s chief negotiator Iván Márquez, AFP reported.

In an interview on Monday, Maduro told multi-state news TV channel Telesur that Venezuela would continue committed to peace in Colombia, and stated that late President Hugo Chávez hoped for a lasting peace agreement this year.

“Without Chávez’s participation we would not be engaged in the dialogue we are currently holding,” Márquez highlighted upon his arrival at Havana’s Convention Palace, the venue of the talks.
