Divorces Increase in Colombia

The number of Colombian couples divorced in 2012 increased from 15,000 to 18,000 cases compared to 2011, announced here the Notaries and Registries superintendent, Jorge Velez.

In an annual report released by the radio station Laf.m, Velez said that divorces grew 17.55 percent, with a greater emphasis on the northern department of Sucre.

In that city, there was an increase of 825 percent, some 148 transactions, compared to the 16 reported in 2011.

Among the places with the lowest rate of splits were Valle del Cauca (that includes Colombia’s third largest city, Cali), with a one per cent, followed by Bogota (Colombia’s capital city), with five percent.
