WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim was in Bogota, Colombia for a three day visit, in which he agreed on a treaty to exchange tax information with Colombian authorities.
Minister Jardim discussed on Monday with his Colombian counterpart Finance Minister Mauricio Cárdenas, on further cooperation agreements. Both ministers have indicated that on very short term they will proceed to negotiate a customs treaty between the two countries. Besides, Jardim and Cárdenas declared that the treaty is to avoid double taxation, or a DTA (double taxation agreement), which the Netherlands is currently negotiating with Colombia in which they also want to include a specific protocol between Colombia and Curacao.
Besides the formal nature of the trip, Minister Jardim opened on Tuesday, the Conference of the Curaçao International Financial Center, with the Minister’s commitment the government has stressed on the facilitation, as well as the active support of the international financial sector in Curacao . During the conference, the Minister and multiple actors in the Colombian market, discussed the future of the international financial sector in Curaçao. He explained the supervision model in which the international financial sector operates on the island.
The Minister of Finance, attended a dinner at the residence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Colombia where various Colombian authorities and representatives of the financial sector were present.
