BOGOTÁ, Colombia – Segundo Benjamín Morales, a councilman representing the Radical Change party in the municipality of San José de Albán in the department of Nariño, was fatally shot by unknown gunmen who broke into his residence on March 15.
Four other councilmen from San José de Albán also received death threats and were forced to flee their residences with their families, according to the National Federation of Councils (Fenacon).
Morales previously had reported being the targets of death threats to the state-run National Protection Unit (UNP), according to Fenacon President Carmen Lucía Agredo Acevedo.
