The deal will allow the Bogota-based production company to adapt hit formats for Spanish-language television.
Colombian production company RTI has inked a first look and development deal with Pomodoro Stories, allowing the Bogota-based shingle to adapt hit formats for Spanish-language television.
RTI produces content for Mexico’s Televisa and Colombia’s RCN, two of Latin America’s top networks. Under the agreement, RTI will gain access to scripted formats from around the world. In turn, Pomodoro will offer worldwide distribution via its German partner Beta Film and it will also have the option of boarding RTI projects as a co-producer or financier.
RTI will be looking first and foremost at telenovela formats, however, the deal provides access to a broad range of scripted genres. Florida-based Pomodoro is planning on relocating near RTI’s offices in the Colombian capital.
The deal reunites RTI president Patricio Wills and Pomodoro managing director Brendan Fitzgerald. The two collaborated together on the TV series Zorro when Wills was head of Telemundo Studios and Fitzgerald was overseeing Latin America production for Sony.
Fitzgerald believes the development deal has huge potential.
“It is truly inspiring to think what RTI and Pomodoro could accomplish, allied with Televisa and RCN on one end, and Beta Film on the other,” he said.
