HAVANA — Colombia’s largest guerrilla army says talks on ending the country’s protracted civil conflict have been postponed a week.

Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia rebels say in a statement that negotiations scheduled for Oct. 8 in Norway will now open Oct. 15.

The FARC, as the group is known, did not give a reason in a brief statement late Monday but said both the guerrillas and the Colombian government agreed to the delay.

The two sides also agreed to make an unspecified “public announcement” on the 17th.

Colombian government representatives and the rebels spent six months in the Cuban capital hammering out a framework to launch formal peace talks.

The FARC is the oldest guerrilla force in the hemisphere and has an estimated 9,000 combatants.
