Colombian Police Capture Members of Human Trafficking Ring

The Colombian police captured nine members of a human trafficking ring operating in the Aburra Valley subregion in the northern department of Antioquia, in Medellin. Authorities stated thatfour women and five men, who are part of Los Comisionistas group, were arrested in the operation, reported the El Colombiano newspaper.

According to the source, those arrested operated along the Mico bridge, where they were engaged in sexual tourism and the promotion of prostitution. They also facilitated the movement of women across the country for sexual exploitation.

An intensive operation against Los Comisionistas has been underway in various parts of the country since 2009.

Four of its most important leaders were arrested last year. They are currently serving sentences at the Bellavista prison.
