Colombia Hopes Ecuadorian President Attends Hemispheric Forum

Bogota  – Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos Thursday said that his country waits with open arms the visit of Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, who is expected to attend the Summit of the Americas.

Santos reiterated once more that he expects that President Correa honors Colombia with his visit and they are waiting him with their arms opened.

According to the Colombian president, his country’s intention is that all the heads of State of the American countries take part in the summit, to be held in Cartagena de Indias, in April, with the exclusion of Cuba.

Santos made those statements during a ceremony in which former Brazilian Defense Minister Nelson Jovim was decorated with the San Carlos order.

Meanwhile, reports from Quito revealed that Correa will announce his decision about the Ecuadorian presence in the Summit of the Americas on Monday.

A communique from the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry says that the presence of Ecuador in the Cartagena de Indias Summit, from April 14 to 15, was distorted by El Universal local daily when manipulating statements of Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin.

Holguin recently said that the Summit of the Americas could disappear if the exclusion of Cuba of that hemispheric meeting persists.
