Colombia ‘admired’ for results at 2012 Olympics

Colombia is being admired for its results at the 2012 Olympics in London where it won eight medals, the president of the country’s sports federation said Sunday.

The country performed above expectation; breaking its old three-medal record and ending up at the 38th spot of the final country ranking, beating all other Latin American countries but Brasil and Cuba and bringing home one gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

“We are now admired by the world. They are asking us how we do it,” Coldeportes President Andres Botero told newspaper El Tiempo.

According to the sports federation president, his organization and the Colombian Olympic Committee have been preparing improved international results for over ten years through “a strategy of looking and supporting talent.”

“Colombia has a well-constructed plan and that is what we have shown in London and other Olympic events,” said Botero.

According to the sports executive, the London games “invite us to dream and work harder.”

“We have to continue with what we’re doing, working well. I am certain this labor will be consolidated even more,” the Coldeportes president told the newspaper.
