QUITO- Six alleged Colombian guerrillas, including two women, one of whom is pregnant, surrendered to Ecuadorian police in a town bordering Colombia, Ecuadorian media reported Sunday.

The six turned themselves in late Saturday to local police authorities in the town of Palma Real, in the northern Ecuadorian province of Esmeralda, declaring themselves to be members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) insurgent group, the reports said quoting police.

The rebels, who claimed to be members of the FARC’s Daniel Aldana faction, told authorities that they had fled after receiving threats from their commanders, according to the reports.

The rebels also handed in their firearms, including an HK-G3 assault rifle, and backpacks with camouflage uniforms.

The six were taken to nearby San Lorenzo in Esmeraldas, where a criminal court judge ordered their provisional imprisonment and called for them to be transferred to a prison in Ecuador’s capital Quito, where they are expected to arrive Monday.

So far, neither Ecuadorian nor Colombian officials have made any statement on the case.
