COLOMBIA NEWS – A vital road linking Colombia’s three southern departments with the rest of the country was attacked allegedly by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on July 16, leaving the regions isolated, local media reported.
Guaviare governor Jose Rivera said an explosive device was detonated on the road, leaving a 10-meter-deep crater with a 20-meter diameter.
The road was the only connection between Guaviare, Vaupes and Meta departments, where FARC rebels have a strong presence.
The government has offered a reward of 20 million Colombian pesos (US$10,700) for any information that can lead to the capture of the guerrillas responsible for the attack.
The largest insurgency group in Colombia, the FARC has been negotiating a peace deal with the Colombian government since November 2012 in Havana, Cuba.
