The land issue continues today as a center of peace talks in this capital between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP).
The parties carry out the third day of talks at the Havana’s Conference Center, since the resumption on Monday, January 14, of a dialogue that took a recess for more than three weeks.
Not only the government delegation, headed by Humberto de la Calle, but also the guerrillas, with Ivan Marquez ahead, have agreed to consider the land question as a key issue to solve decades of armed conflict in the South American country.
The FARC-EP demanded yesterday the presence at the negotiation table of Colombian Minister of Agriculture, Juan Camilo Restrepo, considering that the Executive is promoting a bill that “persists in determining further concessions to landowners and rentiers.”
Another element that has marked the first holds in the resumption of peace talks respond to a call from both delegations to seek faster dialogue, which is based on a six-item document previously approved in Cuba, venue of the conversations.
In addition to the land issue, the dialogue agenda includes political participation, the end of conflict, the problem of drug trafficking, care for victims, and mechanisms of verification and countersignature of the agreement on the talks.
