Four Colombian soldiers were arrested on Monday after accusations they had tortured a man they falsely accused of being a guerrilla collaborator.

The torture investigation began in the northern province of Bolivar in 2007, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The military members are alleged to have tortured a crew member of a boat at a control post on the Caribona River.

The victim was intercepted carrying $10,000 to purchase property.

The soldiers allegedly tortured him into saying that the money was illicit and that he belonged to a local guerrilla group. They allowed the boat to continue once he had handed over more than $3,300.

The victim then told another army unit about the torture and theft.

The one active and three ex-soldiers were taken to Bogota where they will await their trial behind bars.
