Bogota tourist center to stay open all Saturday night

La Candelaria, the tourist center of Colombia’s capital Bogota, will stay open all night on Saturday to help it become the neighborhood that never sleeps.

In what the mayor’s office calls a “day of culture,” starting at 6pm around 70 malls and 7,000 establishments will be able to stay open as long as they see fit.

Transmilenio, the public bus transport system, will also extend hours until midnight.

Bogota’s Mayor’s Office hopes this event will boost employment and reinforce La Candelaria’s position as the city’s biggest tourist attraction.

The night of cultural celebration will include three routes in La Candelaria with cultural, food, and nightlife events. The sector will also have an increased presence of Colombia’s police to ensure security.

The three routes

  • Starting at Plaza de Bolivar along Carrera 10 up to Carrera 3. On Carrera 3 up to Calle 12B and from Calle 12B to the Plazoleta del Chorro de Quevedo
  • Starting at the Plazoleta del Rosario along Carrera 6 up to Calle 11. From Calle 11 up to Carrera 3, and from Carrera 3 up to Calle 12B. Along Calle 12B to the Plazoleta del Chorro de Quevedo
  • Starting at Parque de los Periodistas along Jimenez Avenue up to Carrera 5. Along Carrera 5 up to Calle 10. Along Calle 10 up to Carrera 3. Along carrera 3 up to Calle 12B and from Calle 12B up to the Plazoleta del Chorro de Quevedo.
